Rich Text Editor

Overview

Profiled users are now able optionally to use a rich text editor when entering and modifying their web pages and events. The rich text editor operates in a "what you see is what you get" manner like Word or similar document editors, and so you now don't need to understand about HTML to create really effective web content. Here we provide detailed instructions on working with the rich text editor - you may wish to print this page for reference purposes.

Usage

To access the rich text editor, create a new Page or Event in the usual way, or open your existing web content for amendment by clicking the Edit tab. Select the group box link entitled Input format and when it expands ensure that the radio button is set on Full HTML and not Filtered HTML.

Then, below the presented Body text area you will see a link entitled (Open rich editor); just click this link and a new browser window will be opened containing the rich text editor with either a blank page or your existing content.

You can then type your text directly into the rich text editor, and apply formatting to it directly via the toolbar at the top of the window. You can easily cut and paste text, apply styles, create lists, insert links, change justification and perform many other operations. A summary of the available toolbar operations is shown in an image at the bottom of this page, and you should also read the official editor user guide if possible.

When you have completed your editing, you must click the Ok button in the rich text editor window: this updates the body text in the original browser window but note that you must then click the Save button at the bottom of the web page to save the new content to the database. You may click the Cancel button in the rich text editor to terminate editing without saving.

N.B. if you click the "close" icon on the rich text editor window (typically a cross on a red background) all changes made in the editing session will be lost.

Toolbar Summary

N.B. If you use the Firefox browser, by default it auto-resizes images with the result that the above toolbar summary may be too small to read easily. Move the mouse cursor over the image and the cursor will change to a magnifying glass - then just click the image and it will be redisplayed at full size and be more easily readable, though you may well then have to scroll across to see all the entries.
